- EC Teacher Assistant, Sub Bus Driver
- Permanent / full-time (10 months) / 7.5 hours per day
- Benefit eligible (paid holidays, sick leave, retirement, hospitalization insurance, annual leave)
- Dual Employment / must meet requirements for both positions

Salary / FLSA / Non-Exempt
Grade 59 / Teacher Assistant ($16.48 - $21.58 per hour); plus local supplement (if applicable)
Grade 51B / Sub Bus Driver ($15.00 - $17.00 per hour)
The salary for this position is based upon the successful applicant’s years of service in the NC State Retirement System in the same or similar position. Experience outside of this system is not recognized for pay purposes. For current Lincoln County School employees, this position will be paid according to the current Lincoln County Schools’ pay scale.

Nature of Work
Under general supervision, employee will perform a variety of technical and clerical
tasks in assisting the teacher. Employee may perform a wide range of tasks in order to support the efforts of the teacher, meet the needs of students, and ensure the provision of quality instruction for all students. Employee provides assistance to students with regard to academics, behavioral needs, and personal and self-helps skills, and may lead small group activities. Employee assists teacher with general housekeeping, clerical duties, and personal care needs of students.

Qualifications / Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and driving record that qualifies employee to obtain and maintain a valid NCCDL and drive a bus as directed by supervisor.
- Must comply with all rules and regulations governing the safe operation of a school bus.
- Crisis Prevention Intervention Training
- Medical/Medication Training (catheterization, tube feeding, medication administration, etc.)
- Diabetic Training (as needed for those students in the class)
- Other areas as needed to perform the duties of the EC assignment (TEACCH training, First Aid, CPR, etc.)
- Maintain confidentiality. Treat all information regarding children and their families with the strictest confidence.
- Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools (such as computers, copiers, calculators, be familiar with student’s wheelchair equipment, communication devices, use of a picture schedule) including, but not limited to, specific devices for children with special needs.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk and sometimes has to stoop, kneel, or crouch, regularly lift and/or move a student(s) for personal care needs.
- Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects: Ability to assist the students’ physical and personal care needs which include feeding, personal hygiene and toileting needs, communication and social needs
- Assist students with physical or behavioral disabilities according to their individual needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting or positioning as directed by parent, physical or occupational therapists
- Requires the ability to apply practical problem solving strategies and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations; to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form. Has the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions
- Knowledge of and follows classroom routines and daily instructions
- Knowledge of and follows school-wide procedures/policies including emergency procedures
- Knowledge of and follows county-wide policies pertaining to Lincoln County Schools employees
- Assist in managing the behavior of students and crisis prevention and intervention. This may include restraining of student using Crisis Prevention Intervention techniques
- Assist with supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom including lunchroom, bus duty, playground, field trips, and school-wide activities
- Participate in in-service training programs for professional growth
- Must be able to perform very heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects

Duties
- Consistently monitor the safety and well-being of students; monitor behavior and help maintain discipline in the classroom; record time out and in class suspension; motivate students while encouraging self-esteem
- Work directly with students in reinforcing skills previously introduced by the teacher and assist students with becoming increasingly independent
- Teacher assistant will assist teacher with executing instruction with students as necessary. Assist students with learning; reinforce and clarify instructions; conduct short sessions on improving study skills; create and modify materials to match student abilities; modify tests for students; provide one-on-one assistance as needed
- Perform general housekeeping duties in maintaining an orderly classroom
- Monitor the safety and care of school, classroom, and student equipment or materials
- Assist in feedings as necessary; care for students’ toileting needs, if needed; and assist with any other tasks students are not able to perform for themselves
- Perform other related work /classroom tasks as required and specified by the teacher
- Maintenance of a good attendance record and arrival to work on time is essential
- Knowledge of the curriculum for the class
- Transport students to and from school as needed
- Other duties as assigned by teacher and/or administration
