Grade 59 ($16.48 - $22.23 per hour) State Salary Schedule  

The salary for this position is based upon the successful applicant’s years of service in the NC State Retirement System in the same or similar position.  Experience outside of this system is not recognized for pay purposes.  For current Lincoln County School employees, this position will be paid according to the current Lincoln County Schools’ pay scale.

 

Nature of Work

Under general supervision, a teacher assistant will perform a variety of technical and clerical tasks in assisting with the school’s instructional program related to social emotional learning and Multi-Tiered Support Services (MTSS). Employee may perform a wide range of tasks in order to support the efforts of the guidance counselor, teacher, meet the needs of all students, and ensure the provision of quality interventions for all students.  Employee provides one-on-one assistance for academic support, behavioral problems, and personal and self-helps skills and may lead whole-group guidance lessons. 

 

Qualifications & Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be able to pass a drug test, background check, and TB test before starting employment.
  • Meet the following requirements of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA):

    • hold an Associate’s degree or higher (in any area);
    • or 30 semester hours; (in any area)
    • or a passing score as noted below on the WorkKeys Test offered at Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC)
      • Workplace Documents - The state requires a passing level of 4 or above
      • Applied Math - The state requires a passing level of 4 or above
      • Business Writing - The state requires a passing level of 3 or above
  • Working knowledge of effective methods of working with students
  • Working knowledge of the district-wide MTSS process
  • Some knowledge of the school organization and its community
  • Some knowledge of expected behavior of students and basic characteristics of ages and stages
  • Skill necessary to operate audiovisual and technological equipment and common office machines
  • Skill to make learning aids which will strengthen lesson plans
  • Ability to comprehend the purpose of teacher-designed strategies as a fulfillment of the instructional objective
  • Ability to discern significant student behavior and refer this to the supervisor
  • Ability to impart information to the student’s level of comprehension
  • Ability to apply, impartially and consistently, proper methods of recognition, reward and punishment
  • Ability to solve independently most minor problems
  • Ability to follow minimally detailed written and oral instructions without constant supervision
  • Ability to record and store data accurately
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with parents, students, teachers, staff, and administrators
  • The employee provides support to the school counselor in the instruction of students
  • Must be able to perform very heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects

  • Provides individualized and whole-group guidance instruction
  • Demonstrates various instructional activities
  • Monitors student progress as it relates to the MTSS process
  • Praises and reinforces achievement of students
  • Reports student progress to school counselors and teachers
  • Serves on the school MTSS Team
  • Instructional preparation/support
  • Serves as substitute teacher
  • Prepares visual aids
  • Duplicates materials
  • Serves as proctor during testing
  • Attends workshops
  • Records student behavior
  • Files data according to regulatory requirements
  • Monitors student behavior
  • Supervises students in the classroom and other locations (before and after school as needed)
  • reates and distributes awards for positive behavior
  • Promotes student self esteem
  • Teaches citizenship, social skills and respect for others
  • Reconciles minor student conflicts and misbehavior
  • Participates in development of discipline policy
  • Other duties as assigned
