Salary/FLSA: Non-Exempt
Grade 68 ($20.57 - $27.77) State Salary Schedule, plus local supplement
The salary for this position is based upon the successful applicant’s years of service in the NC State Retirement System in the same or similar position. Experience outside of this system is not recognized for pay purposes. For current Lincoln County School employees, this position will be paid according to the current Lincoln County Schools’ pay scale.

Qualifications and Requirements
- Requires a high school diploma or GED certificate; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of the work
- hold an Associate’s degree or higher (in any area);
- or 30 semester hours; (in any area)
- or a passing score as noted below on the WorkKeys Test offered at Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC)
- Certification from a program providing training in braille and transcribing braille

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of Unified English Braille (UEB).
- Working understanding of basic UEB code, utilized in mathematics for the blind.
- Ability to work with visually impaired students in the classroom and school environments.
- Using specific small office equipment, such as computers, raised-line drawing technology, braille embosser printers, etc.
- Utilizing scanners, Perkins braillers, and abacus.
- Demonstrating efficient organizational skills.
- Meeting schedules and timelines.
- Ability to maintain and organize student data.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with visually impaired students, as well as, with faculty and staff.
- Observing the progress of a student and adapting or modifying methods of communication and/or discussing concerns with the instructional and program staff as needed.
- Maintaining the confidentiality of information exchanged.
- Other duties as assigned.
