2026-2027 Recruitment Bonus:
- $3,000. Recruitment/Retention Bonus
- New hires are eligible
- Teachers not fully licensed in the correct area but who are able to obtain a provisional license (residency etc.) will receive half
- LCS Teacher s serving in the role of resource or inclusion are eligible for bonus if they move to an eligible separate setting classroom
- Separate to separate is ineligible for the bonus
1/2 will be paid December 2026,
1/2 paid June 2027

Qualifications/Requirements:
|
Must hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina teaching license in appropriate licensure area. Licensure in Special Education: General Curriculum or Behaviorally/Emotionally Handicapped K-12 is required.
|

Goal:
|
To provide exceptional children in a self-contained setting with individually tailored help, instruction, and experiences he/she needs in order to make progress toward individual education program (IEP) goals
|
|
Duties:
|
- Demonstrate knowledge of educational and exceptional children laws, rules, regulations, practices and trends in accordance with district, state, and federal regulations
- Demonstrate knowledge of educational curricula, instructional methodologies and techniques, technology, cognitive development of students and integration of these to promote student success
- Knowledgeable of the NC Standard Course of Studies Common Core Standards curricula and implements evidence-based instruction accordingly so that exceptional children make progress in the curricula, with appropriate modifications and accommodations
- Develop, implement, and document differentiated lessons, adapting and modifying materials to ensure students make progress in the curricula
- Develop and implement the student’s IEP utilizing evidence-based instructional strategies and programs that are compatible with the student's age and developmental level
- Maintain accurate and timely exceptional children records in accordance with NC Policies Governing Services for Children with Disabilities and local policies and procedures established by the district’s Exceptional Children Program
- Gather data in a timely manner to monitor students’ progress toward academic and behavioral goals in the IEP and utilizing such data to make instructional decisions for students; report progress toward IEP goals to parents at regularly scheduled intervals; utilize progress monitoring data during IEP meetings to assist teams in IEP development, decision making, and problem solving
- Experience with completing Functional Behavior Assessments, ABC data collection, data analysis, and development of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) for exceptional children; progress monitoring of students’ BIP, as appropriate
- Collaborate with IEP teams regarding scheduling and coordination of IEP meetings to include initial evaluation, eligibility determination, annual review, reevaluation, and problem solving as required
- Design and implement instructional activities to assist students with behavioral challenges in the development of appropriate academic, functional, behavioral, and social skills to meet their IEP goals
- Utilize formal and informal diagnostic assessment information to develop the student’s IEP and to document student’s academic and functional performance, as appropriate
- Assist students with personal and self-help needs and other essential tasks that the student is not able to perform
- Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures, implements appropriate positive behavior systems, and maintains order in a fair and just manner
- Structures a positive and proactive classroom environment suitable to manage the academic, behavioral, and social deficits of the students
- Designs and implements environmental modifications and management procedures which address student behavioral expectations across all settings
- Collaborate and coordinate services with the student’s IEP team, general education, specialist teachers, and administrators of the school including participation with nondisabled peers when appropriate based on individual student performance data
- Interact and communicate effectively with students, co-workers, staff, administrators, parents, and the community
- Must be self-motivated, self-directed, collaborative, and flexible
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district, and in self-selected professional growth activities and demonstrate evidence of growth
- Utilizes appropriate positive intervention strategies to deescalate inappropriate student behaviors and/or emotional responses and teach appropriate replacement behaviors
- Must have current certification in Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) and maintain such credentials or attain such credential at the beginning of the school year through successful completion of CPI training program; must apply and document the use of CPI techniques to deescalate students when applicable; must follow established EC Dept. and district policies and reporting requirements regarding seclusion and restraint
- Follows established school and district procedures for crisis or emergency situations
- Must be able to perform heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of forces frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects
- Other duties as assigned by Principal and / or EC Director
