Position: Career Development Coordinator (CDC)
Location: Lincolnton High School
Terms of Contract: 10.5 months, full-time, benefit eligible
Reports To: Principal and Chief of Postsecondary Readiness & Career Technical Education
Monthly Salary: Teacher State Salary Schedule (plus local supplement)
FLSA: EXEMPT
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold the 747 – Career Development Coordinator North Carolina teaching license
- A bachelor’s degree in a Career-Technical Education program area or a master’s degree in school counseling or career counseling from a regionally accredited college or university
- Completion of the NC DPI New CDC Induction course
Goal: To coordinate student activities in Career-Technical Education that help students make a smooth transition from education to work or post-secondary education.
Duties: The Career Development Coordinator’s (CDC) role is to support Career and Technical Education (CTE) and to provide and coordinate career development services for students participating in CTE. The CDC works collaboratively with administrators, student services personnel, and teachers to ensure the delivery of career development services. CDC’s facilitate linkages with parents, business/industry, post-secondary institutions, and community organizations to support students’ transition to post-secondary education and employment. CDCs facilitate student Work-Based Learning Internships and visit internship hosts periodically during the semester to meet with students at work. CDCs facilitate student interest in other areas of Work-Based Learning, including Job Shadowing opportunities and Apprenticeships.

MAJOR FUNCTION: Career Development
Responsibilities include:
- Creates and coordinate career development services/opportunities for all students
- Promote career awareness, exploration, and planning throughout the school year
- Provide career development, occupational, labor market, non-traditional careers, and post-secondary information to all students
MAJOR FUNCTION: Preparatory Services
Responsibilities include:
- Assists students with selection of appropriate academic and CTE courses/ pathways
- Coordinate career planning activities in classrooms, groups, or individual sessions
- Provide and coordinate administration and interpretation of career assessments
- Provide information on post-secondary education programs and employment opportunities
- Assist students with post-secondary education and employment opportunities
MAJOR FUNCTION: Transition Services
Responsibilities include:
Facilitate work-based learning opportunities
- Facilitate work-based learning opportunities (Job Shadowing, Internships, and Apprenticeships)
- Provide and coordinate activities for students to develop employability skills
- Promote the integration of career research and work-based learning opportunities into CTE and academic courses
- Promote the use of technology for career planning and research
MAJOR FUNCTION: Partnerships
Responsibilities include:
- Facilitate business, education, and community partnerships that provide opportunities for students and support CTE at the school
- Serve as a liaison with the business, industry, education, and military communityto further postsecondary opportunities for students
- Publicize partnership resources
MAJOR FUNCTION: Professional Development
Responsibilities include:
- Participate in professional development activities at the local, regional, state, and national levels
- Engage in professional growth opportunities to remain current with trends, demands, and emerging careers in a rapidly changing workforce
- Must be able to perform heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of forces frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects
- Other duties as assigned
