SALARY/FLSA:  

• The School will be responsible for funding the supplement for assistant athletic director based on the applicant’s category level in the LCS Assistant Athletic Director supplement schedule
• Applicants must be able to handle the part-time assistant athletic director responsibilities while maintaining current assignments with the school.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS / DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina teaching license in appropriate licensure area.

 

Preferences for applicants:

• Experience in organizing and operating all aspects of an athletic program is preferred.
• Previous coaching experience as Head Varsity Coach.
• Experience leading others, including supervising and collaborating with adults.
• Experience managing or working with an (athletic program) budget.

 Goal:

• Provide opportunities for all enrolled students to participate in an extracurricular athletics that will develop physical skills, build a sense of worth and competence, and foster an appreciation for the enjoyment and lifelong value of sports.
• Build strong relationships with community stakeholders, including families, local organizations, and supporters of the athletic program.
• Model and promote calm, professional behavior in all situations, while teaching and practicing effective conflict resolution skills within athletic programs.
• Integrate, model and measure leadership development as directed by the Leader in Me framework into each sport and the overall athletic program by promoting the principles of fair play and good sportsmanship while developing student leaders through teamwork, accountability and character.

Duties: The assistant athletic director will assist the athletic director in activities as so directed. 

 

• Help to provide a list of all equipment to the principal on a yearly basis.
• Work to oversee and implement all coach evaluations as required by the AD.
• Help the athletic director with parent meetings as requested.
• Work with the athletic director to ensure all sports are treated equitably and will advocate for all sports.
• Work with the athletic director to provide a means for all coaches to have input in the needs assessment for each sport. (A needs assessment form will be provided to each coach at the beginning of the school year.  The form must be returned to the athletic director and reviewed by the principal.)
• The assistant athletic director may be asked to assist the athletic director in creating an athletic budget and will meet as needed with the principal to review all athletic accounts including athletics, individual sports accounts, and booster accounts. The athletic director will develop a budget based on the average of the past 3 – 5 years of gate receipts.  The budget will be presented to the administration for approval and submitted to the county athletic director.  The operational budget and financial procedures are to include:
• Preparation and supervision of the athletic budget.
• Direct sale of tickets for all contests.
• Follow proper financial procedures for cash handling and gate/ticket receipts.
• Collect all monies from the athletic contests and deposit in the appropriate accounts.
• Ensure that all money raised or collected by the school will be deposited in an appropriate school athletic account.
• Ensure that the donations from the booster organizations are equally dispersed among all sports and used for those intended fundraising activities by the boosters.
• The assistant athletic director may be asked to help develop a master schedule for all competitions to include all athletic events for the school year.  The schedule will be submitted to the principal for approval.  The principal will submit the master schedule to the office of the Lincoln County Schools Athletic Director. The schedule will provide equity for all sports in the use of facilities for competitions.
• The assistant athletic director may be asked to help develop a schedule to ensure equal access to all weight rooms for male and female athletes.
• The assistant athletic director may be asked to work with the Lincoln County Schools Department of Transportation to schedule activity buses.
• If the assistant athletic director helps with this task, they will ensure that all activity buses are returned clean and on time to the appropriate site.
• The assistant athletic director may be asked to coordinate with the maintenance department, the repair and maintenance of all facility needs which are utilized by the athletic department.
• The assistant athletic director may be asked to help provide the principal with the eligibility lists for all sports for their approval. The AD is ultimately responsible for ensuring the requirements below are met for each athlete of each sport.

• The assistant athletic director will help ensure all rules and regulations as mandated by the NCHSAA are enforced with all sports at each sporting event.
• The assistant athletic director will help to ensure that all coaches have the information from all pre-season paperwork turned in before participating in any school sponsored athletic activities including but not limited to try-outs and practice.
• The assistant athletic director may work with the athletic director and with coaches to ensure try-outs for sports are held appropriately which is defined as announcing dates and times of tryouts in a timely manner, equal access to tryouts, and a measurable rubric to measure the athlete’s performance during tryouts.
• The assistant athletic director will work with the athletic director and coach to address facility needs and maintenance of all athletic facilities including locker rooms, competition fields practice fields, and weight rooms.
• The assistant athletic director will work with the athletic director to provide documentation to the principal that all head coaches and assistant coaches have attended the required rules session and taken the appropriate course work issued by the NCHSAA.
• The assistant athletic director will work with the athletic director to provide security at all events held on site or off-site as needed to maintain the safety and integrity of the scheduled event. It will be the AD's responsibility to ensure that the appropriate staff is in place for crowd control based on our Fire Marshall’s recommendations.
• The assistant athletic director will work with the athletic director as required to resolve any conflicts within the coaching staff.
• The assistant athletic director will work with the athletic director to act as a tournament manager for all league and tournament playoff activities that are assigned to the school.
• The assistant athletic director works with the athletic director to help plan and supervise the athletic awards programs with the cooperation of the administrators and coaches.
• The assistant athletic director will work with the athletic director as required to attend and serve as the school liaison at athletic booster organizations meetings.
• The assistant athletic director will work with the athletic director to assist the administration in the preparation and distribution of complimentary passes for the school.
• The assistant athletic director will  work with the athletic director to help prepare and obtain signed game contracts when appropriate.
• The assistant athletic director will work with the athletic director to ensure that all coaches carry out the pre-season meetings with parents and athletes and ensure all pre-season paperwork is signed and returned.
• The assistant athletic director will work with the athletic director to ensure that all athletic facilities are prepared for practice and/or competition.
• The assistant athletic director will work with the athletic director to develop a preventative maintenance schedule for all facilities and equipment.
• The assistant athletic director will work with the athletic director to report all coaches who are ejected or disqualified from an event to the principal and the Lincoln County Athletic Director.
• The assistant athletic director must be eligible and willing to obtain CDL bus driver's license for driving the Activity bus.
• Other duties as assigned.

 

COACHING COURSES REQUIRED:

All coaches (volunteer or paid) must complete the following courses through the National Fundamentals of High School (NFHS.com) before being approved to work with student athletes:

• Fundamentals of Coaching (8 +/- hour) High School Coaches
• Concussion Training (45 minute) - All Coaches
• CPR Certification Required
• Coaching Mental Health Wellness certificate required
• Afterschool Security Certificate is required
